About the Book

For the first time available in English — in a superb translation by Roland Grefer — Love Me, Your Daughter is Geerje Suhr’s third book with Culicidae Press. We published the first one, The German Exchange Student: A Love Story, in 2022 and the second one, Learning About Love, in 2023.

Synopsis

The book consists of three interwoven parts. In the first, through a series of letters from a diary, the author explores the fraught relationship between herself (as the character Gorda) and her mother. Interspersed are short essays, partly autobiographical and partly invented, about her relationships with her friends and acquaintances. The third part is a reckoning with her family’s history, particularly her absent father who was a high-level Nazi working under Eichman before he (the father) committed suicide in a prison where he was awaiting trial for his actions during World War II.

Special Features

Like in her first two books, Love Me, Your Daughter, features several reproductions of original artwork by the author and others, as well as apparently historical photographs along the lines of W. G. Sebald’s Austerlitz.
